The Year Everything Cracked Open: 2025. It was one of the hardest years of my life. It was also the year that seeded beauty, love, and the best next half of my life. Because I refused to shrink from what breast cancer had to teach me, and I refused to let it eat me alive from the inside out. I cried. I grieved. I raged, in full punk rock fashion, channeling every last drop of it into poetry, song lyrics and a book with a title I don't apologize for: Cancer, the Gift. Instead of closing down, I leaned in. I couldn't change the diagnosis, but I could change my attitude, my outlook, my daily emotional setpoint. I didn't bypass my feelings. I felt every single one, closer and rawer than ever. And then, on the other side of each wave, I chose Joy. Defiant Joy, right now, and then again in the next now, until it became my baseline.
Grief passed through. Joy stayed standing. And love bloomed right alongside it. Turns out my breast cancer story and my love story are intertwined at the root. One doesn't exist without the other. I wouldn't have met my Matt. (Love you, babe!)
